So what's this about?: In September 2013, three girls from Kimberley Park State School in Brisbane won the Robocup Junior Championships at the National level with their 'Dance Theatre' entry called GREEK MYTH. To do that they overcame competition from several other very competent teams including some guest teams from Korea and China.
As a result, they were invited to compete in the forthcoming WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS on behalf of AUSTRALIA... which is GREAT...but expensive! The competition is the week after the football world cup in July 2014, so prices for flights and accommodation are hiked...as you'd expect! We need to raise at least $10,000 to get the team and all their kit to the championships.
If you can help...even a tiny amount, it will all help and the girls will be ETERNALLY grateful to you!!!
We went to the State Competition this year and amazingly placed 1st! After realising that this had some potential, we got some extra mentoring from Robo Gals and worked like crazy to get to the Nationals. After a nail biting wait, we were told to stand up and get our trophy for 1st place. I could hardly believe my ears as I awkwardly walked up on stage. After one of the judges asked if we were going to the internationals, they told us we had an international quality performance, we decided we would fund raise to get to Brazil in July.
We're very excited to have this opportunity to represent Australia and have commenced fundraising already. Over the next 9 months we will be working hard at that and rebuilding our robots and props getting ready for the competition in Brazil.
In previous years we have travelled to Hobart and Canberra to compete in the National Competition, both times placing fourth and this year to come first and to qualify to compete in Brazil is an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity.
The robotics team is only one of my passions, but I’m totally committed to our goal of becoming World Champions in our category. I think it’s achievable, and we just need some help to get to the finals in Brazil in July 14 so that we can concentrate on redesigning our entry to be more portable, and polishing our programs and timings, as well as improving our mechanisms to WOW the judges.
